{"id":11120,"date":"2019-10-12T21:18:23","date_gmt":"2019-10-12T10:18:23","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.foodbank.org.au\/2019\/10\/12\/hunger-hits-women-the-most-as-sa-hits-record-need\/"},"modified":"2025-09-16T12:41:46","modified_gmt":"2025-09-16T02:41:46","slug":"hunger-hits-women-the-most-as-sa-hits-record-need","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.foodbank.org.au\/hunger-hits-women-the-most-as-sa-hits-record-need\/","title":{"rendered":"Hunger hits women the most as SA hits record need"},"content":{"rendered":"<section class=\"section page-element\" data-pb-label=\"Section\">\n\t\t\t<div class=\"container\" data-pb-label=\"Container\">\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"column flex\" data-pb-label=\"Column\"><div class=\"w-full px-4 md:flex-1\"><h1><b>Hunger hits women the most as SA hits record need\u00a0<\/b><\/h1>\n<p>13 October 2019<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>In SA, there has been a 15% increase of those requiring food relief from the previous year<\/li>\n<li>Foodbank SA currently supports more than 126,000 people with Food Relief each month, through agency relationships, Food Hubs and School Programs<\/li>\n<li>In SA around 134,620 individuals are seeking food relief each month including via school relief programs \u2013 with more than 7876 people unable to be provided with food each month<\/li>\n<li>Women are 50% more likely to experience food insecurity than men.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>A new Foodbank survey has found that more South Australians that ever are seeking food relief \u2013 with a staggering 134,620 people asking for help each month \u2013 up 15% from last year.<\/p>\n<p>The report, released today by Foodbank SA, highlights that the demand continues to grow, with women bearing the brunt of food insecurity.<\/p>\n<p>The Foodbank Hunger Report, now in its seventh year, surveys 2,000 charities and 1,000 individuals experiencing food insecurity from around the country.<\/p>\n<p>In South Australia, the need continues to grow with more than 126,000 people seeking food relief each month \u2013 increase from last year\u2019s 117,260.
