{"id":11058,"date":"2019-03-11T00:15:18","date_gmt":"2019-03-10T13:15:18","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.foodbank.org.au\/2019\/03\/11\/charity-ride-returns-to-help-break-cycle-of-hunger\/"},"modified":"2025-09-16T12:42:08","modified_gmt":"2025-09-16T02:42:08","slug":"charity-ride-returns-to-help-break-cycle-of-hunger","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.foodbank.org.au\/charity-ride-returns-to-help-break-cycle-of-hunger\/","title":{"rendered":"Charity ride returns to help break cycle of hunger"},"content":{"rendered":"<section class=\"section page-element\" data-pb-label=\"Section\">\n\t\t\t<div class=\"container\" data-pb-label=\"Container\">\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"column flex\" data-pb-label=\"Column\"><div class=\"w-full px-4 md:flex-1\"><h2>Charity ride returns to help break cycle of hunger<\/h2>\n<h3><strong>11 March 2019<\/strong><\/h3>\n<p>&nbsp;<br \/>\n<strong>Foodbank\u2019s corporate cycling challenge, The Hunger Ride, returns to North East Victoria on Saturday 16 March.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>With one in five children going hungry each year, the ride is raising funds to feed vulnerable Victorian children and their families.<\/p>\n<p>Riders from corporate teams \u2013 including Peters Ice Cream, Port of Melbourne and the West Gate Tunnel Project &#8211; will join Foodbank Victoria and event sponsor JAZZ\u2122 Apple to take on the demanding 172km charity ride.<\/p>\n<p>Departing Beechworth<strong>, <\/strong>the route includes Mt Buffalo and Mt Stanley \u2013 challenging terrain for cyclists.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cHaving grown up in Benalla I\u2019m a huge fan of Victoria\u2019s High Country and I\u2019m really excited to take on Buffalo again,\u201d said Hunger Ride Ambassador and cycling champion Baden Cooke \u2013 winner of the 2003 Tour de France Green Jersey.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cLast year\u2019s Hunger Ride was a sensational event. It was great to see the riders challenge themselves to make the distance in hot conditions and raise much-needed funds for Foodbank.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Montague, one of the largest family-run fruit growing businesses in Australia, is sponsoring the event through its popular new apple variety, JAZZ\u2122 Apple. Peak cycling body, Cycling Victoria, is the delivery partner.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe are thrilled to be supporting The Hunger Ride through our premium JAZZ\u2122 Apple brand and continuing our support of Foodbank\u2019s important work,\u201d said Ray Montague, Managing Director at Montague.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cAs a family business producing quality Australian fruit, assisting those in the community impacted by food insecurity aligns strongly with our values. We\u2019ll be cheering for all the teams in The Hunger Ride, including Team JAZZ\u2122 Apple who\u2019ve been training hard.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The inaugural Hunger Ride was held in March 2018 and raised $60,000.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cEvery dollar donated helps us to provide two meals,\u201d said Foodbank Victoria CEO Dave McNamara.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cAcross the state our charity partners are reporting increased demand for food relief. While we\u2019re helping to feed more than 116,000 Victorians every month, we know more than 12,000 people seeking food can\u2019t be assisted each month.
