{"id":11024,"date":"2019-01-22T05:39:38","date_gmt":"2019-01-21T18:39:38","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.foodbank.org.au\/2019\/01\/22\/foodbank-and-fareshare\/"},"modified":"2025-09-19T10:07:12","modified_gmt":"2025-09-19T00:07:12","slug":"foodbank-and-fareshare","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.foodbank.org.au\/foodbank-and-fareshare\/","title":{"rendered":"Australia\u2019s largest charity kitchen coming to Brisbane in partnership with Foodbank"},"content":{"rendered":"<section class=\"section page-element\" data-pb-label=\"Section\">\n\t\t\t<div class=\"container\" data-pb-label=\"Container\">\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"column flex\" data-pb-label=\"Column\"><div class=\"w-full px-4 md:flex-1\"><h2>Australia\u2019s largest charity kitchen coming to Brisbane in partnership with Foodbank.<\/h2>\n<p>Foodbank and FareShare are joining forces in Queensland to dramatically increase the number of free ready-to-eat meals available for Queenslanders in need.<\/p>\n<p>Foodbank, Australia\u2019s largest food relief organisation, and FareShare, Australia\u2019s biggest charity kitchen, have just signed an agreement to reduce food waste and fight hunger with nutritious meals.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cUnder this exciting new partnership, FareShare will establish a $4.5 million custom-built, production kitchen in Brisbane with the capacity to cook five million meals a year for people doing it tough,\u201d said FareShare General Manager Kellie Watson.<\/p>\n<p>Foodbank already distributes more than 44,000 kg of food a day to vulnerable Queenslanders supporting over 300 charities here in Queensland and over 220 school breakfast programs.\u00a0 Quality food is sourced from farmers, primary producers, manufacturers, wholesalers and retailers.\u00a0 By teaming up with FareShare, Foodbank can now also provide high quality cooked meals to those in need.<\/p>\n<p>Foodbank Queensland CEO Michael Rose said, \u201cthe FareShare kitchen will provide an opportunity for Foodbank to rescue even more food, especially perishables and to reduce waste for donors, by converting surplus food into ready-made meals, rather than sending it to landfill.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>In its first year, the FareShare Queensland production kitchen aims to cook at least a million meals for Queenslanders in need from quality meat and vegetables donated by Foodbank\u2019s generous food donors.<\/p>\n<p>The collaboration plays to both partners\u2019 strengths, tackling food insecurity and Australia\u2019s $20 billion food waste problem head on. Foodbank will source ingredients and distribute meals through its existing network.
